Grade A Fun Facts

1.  The old phrase "raining cats and dogs" started off in 17th century England. During heavy rainstorms, homeless cats and dogs would drown and float down the street which gives off the impression it is raining cats and dogs.

2. All the planets in our solar system can fit in the distance between Earth and the moon. Goes to show how far we are from the moon.

3.  While swimming in the sea, it is more likely that you will be bitten by an American than a shark.

4. Pirates used to wear eye patches to get their eye used to the dark. When they do raids and go to the lower deck, their eyes will be used to the darkness and help them see better.

5. Koalas should be killed off by natural selection soon. The only food they eat destroys their teeth; eventually they won't have teeth and will starve.

6. You have a 50% chance of going to jail if your a governor from Illinois. You have a 40% chance of getting caught if you commit a murder in Chicago. Statistically speaking, it is safer to kill someone in Chicago than become governor in Illinois.

7. In feudal Japan, lords purposely built homes with squeaky floors as a defensive measure against ninjas.

8. Lego is the world's largest tire manufacturer.
Bonus Fact: They also are the world's smallest (in size) tire manufacturer.

9. Henry Ford and Adolf Hitler were buddies. Henry Ford's Antisemitic literature inspired Hitler's book, Mein Kampf, to the point where some of Hitler's wiring were directly copied from Ford's book. Henry ford also showed the Nazis how to streamline production, and create a high volume of product using the assembly line. Hitler used this to rearm Germany before World War II. Ford was given the Iron Cross by Hitler, the highest honor a non citizen can obtain. On top of all that, Hitler kept a picture of Ford in his office.

10. The bible is the most shop lifted book.

11. There are over 56 billion legos in the world. Enough for each person to have 8 pieces.
Bonus Fact: 99% of Legos are owned by 1% of the population.

12. When the Vikings first landed in America, they gifted the leader of the natives milk. But the natives had never drank milk before, and were lactose intolerant. The leader thought this was an attempt to poison him. So to take revenge, he raided the settlement shortly after.

13.The sun makes up 99.86% of the total mass of the solar system.

14. The Great Pyramids were actually shiny like glass ~4000 years ago. Craftsman were tasked with polishing the stones to perfection.

15. Blind people forget many memories because they don't have visual imagery to reminisce.

16. In 1979, a college student only had to work about 182 hours per year in order to pay for tuition. In 2013, the average student has to work 991 hours to pay tuition.

17. When Gmail was announced by Google in 2004, it had 1GB of storage. (Hotmail offered 2Mb) 1Gb of data was so huge people thought it was an April Fool's joke.

18. Some of the crew working on American Horror Story had to leave set at times because Twisty the Clown was so scary, that other cast members would complain about nightmares after filming. Photo for reference because I have such a kind soul.


19. A man by the name of Cornealious Mike Anderson helped robbed a Burger King employee and was ordered to serve 13 years in prison. No one ever came for him, so he continued living his life in St. Louis. When the prison he was supposed to go to prepared for his release 12 years later, they realized they had never captured him at all.

20. Poombah was the first character to fart in a Disney movie.
